Japan's Plywood Imports
'86-'99
The economic recession and fierce competition from Indonesian and Malaysian
plywood manufacturers has recently led to bankruptcy of many Japanese plywood
manufacturers, resulting in a reduction in tropical log imports and massive
increase in plywood imports. Japanese plywood manufacturers' increased use of
conifer wood (larch and radiata pine) has also contributed to reduced tropical
