Round table meeting of the Jumma Peoples Working Towards Peace in Chittagong Hill Tracts (May 29-31, 1998 Kathmandu, NEPAL) Organized by JUMMA PEOPLES ALLIANCE
We, the participants on behalf of the following organizations strongly protest from the Round Table Meeting of the Jumma Peoples held on May 29 - 31, 1998, Kathmandu. Nepal against the Findings and Recommendations of the Mission sponsored by UNDP on the assessment of needs to support the implementation of Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord.
The Findings and Recommendations are found to be unrealistic as it has failed to assess and address the basic needs to support the implementation of accord. It has been emphasized in the recommendations on the sectors of communication and tourism development instead of other priority areas.
Further, the inhabitants of Chittagong Hill Tracts up to the grass roots level have not been consulted. The inhabitants of the region are aware of their own needs and any recommendations should not be made without their consent and consultation.
We, therefore, reject the Findings and recommendations made by the Mission and demand to undertake such initiative by the representative body of the Chittagong Hill Tracts to assess their own needs and design perspective plan and program accordingly.
