NEW DELHI, Sept 27: Director General of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR)
Major General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said there had been 殿 lot
of progress since the last meeting with his Indian counterpart, reports
BSS.

He was talking to reporters at the Indira Gandhi International Airport
on his arrival here, leading a 17-member Bangladesh team, for talks with
the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) team to be led by its Director
General Ajay Raj Sharma.

The BDR chief said killing of innocent and unarmed Bangladeshis, illegal
intrusion by Indians, smuggling of arms, drugs and narcotics from India
into Bangladesh, insurgent camps in India's north eastern states from
which the remaining Shanti Bahini elements are carrying on
anti-Bangladesh activities under the banners of UPDF and PCJSS led by
Preeti Chakma, would among other matters figure at the talks beginning
here tomorrow.

General Jahangir said Bangladesh wants India to hand over the offenders,
wanted by police and courts in Bangladesh, who had taken shelter in
India after committing various crimes including murder and acts of
terrorism.

The BDR chief categorically said there are no northeast Indian insurgent
camps in Bangladesh. He told Indian reporters, 添ou visit Bangladesh
with me and if you can show any such camps I shall destroy them. General Jahangir said a number of Indians was arrested from the Sylhet
border while crossing into Bangladesh with arms made by the Bharat
Explosives.

He said, We have given the list of anti-Bangladesh camps in India's
north-eastern states as well as a number of Indian extremist groups
working against Bangladesh from West Bengal. The BDR chief said these groups are engaged in subversive activities in
southwestern Bangladesh to foment communal tension. But, he said
replying to a question, the agenda is less this time. General Jahangir said excepting certain undesirable incidents the
Bangladesh-India international border was peaceful.

The BSF chief, who received him at the airport, said there would not be
much of difference between the issues to be discussed at the talks
beginning tomorrow. The issues would be the same of the last meeting
held in Dhaka, he said.

General Jahangir said at least two of Bangladeshi offenders, who had
taken refuse in India were killed recently in West Bengal.

The BSF has arranged for the Bangladesh team to visit the BSF training
centre at Gwallior, besides Shimla and Chandigarh, BSF officials said.

The BDR chief is expected to call on the Indian home minister and the
home secretary tomorrow, they said.

Begum Laila Arzu, wife of General Jahangir, accompanied him.
