A couple of the indigenous community was chopped to death and their minor child
critically injured at Gorosthan under Barkal upazila in Chittagong early Wednesday.
Barun Kumar Chakma, 35, was chopped to death, while he was sleeping along with
his wife, Subarna Chakma, 25, and their 11-month-old son, Kamapan, the police
said.
Subarna also was also hacked and she died on her way to Rangamati General Hospital
in the afternoon.
The child, who was critically injured, was admitted to hospital with multiple
injuries, doctors said.
The bodies of the couple are lying in the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
A case is filed with the Barkal police and the investigation of the murder is
going on.
The Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti in a statement condemned the murder
and demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible for the incident.
A statement of the organisation, signed by Mangal Kumar Chakma, said a group
of Bengali settlers attacked the family.
Tamim Ali, Shahidul Mistiri, Ibrahim and Emdad led the attack, the organisation
claimed in the statement.
