The government has announced the framing of rules for Chittagong Hill
Tracts Regional Council and to make the Hill District Councils
effective.
The decision was taken yesterday at a meeting held at Dhaka with the
Deputy Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affair Moni Swapan Dewan in
the chair.
This was first such coordination meeting of the Regional Council and
three Hill Tracts District Councils held during the tenure of the
BNP-led Four-party alliance government.
The meeting discussed the lack of coordination of work between the Hill
District Councils and the Regional Council.
Chairman of the Hill tract Regional Council and leader of Janasanghati
Samity Sontu Larma said that the peace treaty was signed in 1997 but
rules for the Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council were yet to be
framed.
Moni Swapon Dewan said that they have decided to make the rules of the
Regional Council and the Hill District Council laws effective. A
coordination meeting of these Councils will be held once every two
months, he said, BBC reported last night.
