The government did not allow Mr. Jatindriya Bodhipriya
(Santu) Larma, President of the JSS and the Chairman of CHT Regional
Council to go to USA. Mr. Larma is expected to participate in the third
convention of the UN permanent forum on Indigenous People at New York.
From the source of the JSS and the CHT Affairs Ministry it has been
learned that, after receiving an invitation from the UN Permanent forum
on Indigenous People to join its meeting from 10th to 21st May at New
York, Mr. Larma had sent a letter to the Prime Minister on 15th April
seeking permission to join the UN meeting. However, in reply to that
letter he was told verbally on Wednesday through the secretary of the
CHT Affairs Ministry that he will not be permitted to go to the USA.
Mr. Rupayan Dewan, a member of CHT Regional Council and Vice President
of the JSS informed Prothom-alo that they were informed through the
secretary of CHT ministry verbally that the Prime Minister is not
allowing any VIP or minister to leave the country at the moment.
