UPDF, PCJSS trade fire over supremacy

Our Correspondent, Khagrachhari

Activists of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) and United
People's Democratic Front (UPDF) locked in sporadic gunfights at Ramgarh
in last two days over establishing supremacy in the area.
Although paramilitary Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and local sources
confirmed Sunday's gunfight, the BDR denied yesterday's clash at
UPDF-controlled bordering village of Kalapru.
The gunfight between the pro-peace accord PCJSS and its opposition
sparked at 3:00pm Sunday when armed PCJSS members opened fire on Kalapru
villagers.
Over 200 gunshots were exchanged in the one and a half-hour gunfight.
As the army and BDR rushed there, the attackers melted through
Bailyachhari and Jaliapara villages of Matiranga.
Villagers said at least three people were bullet-hit during the
gunfight.
BDR recovered three bullets of LMG, two of 9mm pistol and 10 of other
firearms -- all used -- after the incident.
Details of yesterday's half-an-hour gunfight could not be known.
Security has been tightened in the area, said BDR sources.
Meanwhile, unknown miscreants captured jeep driver Fazar Ali for
extortion when he went to Pilak area for wood and released him after two
hours.
