Star Report
The 48-hour road blockade in three Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) districts and
hartal in Khagrachhari ended without any major incident yesterday evening.
All the three districts were isolated during the programmes, according to our
correspondents. Only some sporadic classes took place in some areas of Rangamati
and Khagrachhari.
Parbatya Chattgram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) called the road blockade and
Bharat Pratyagata Jumma Sharanarthi Kalyan Samity, the platform of indigenous
internal refugees, called the hartal for allocation of rations throughout the
year.
The PCJSS called for a 72 hours road blockade programme from February 7 to 9
from rallies held in three districts to meet their four-point demand.
The PCJSS demands are full implementation of the CHT peace accord, appointment
of a leader of ethnic origin to the post of the CHT Development Board chairman
by removing lawmaker Wadud Bhuiyan, withdrawal of the army camps, Ansars and
Village Defence Party from the CHT and handover of the charge of the CHT affairs
ministry to a cabinet member of ethnic origin.
Our Khgrachhari correspondent reported that yesterday the members of the PCJSS
and internal refugees and Bangalees settlers brought out separate rallies, while
shops were open in the centre of the town.
The JSS brought out a rally headed by Pranati Bikash Chakma in front of its
office.
Bandarban correspondent said without any violence the road blockade ended there.
The PCJSS brought out a rally headed by Joli Mong.
