Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) will enforce a 48-hour road blockade in the three districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) tomorrow to press home its four-point demand.
The demands are full implementation of the CHT peace agreement, appointment of a tribal leader to the post of chairman of the CHT Development Board by removing Wadud Bhuiyan MP, pulling out of all camps of army, ansars and VDP from the hill areas and handover of the charge of CHT Affairs Ministry to a full-fledged tribal minister.
The PCJSS announced the programme on January 6 as their ultimatum for fulfilling the demands ended without any positive response from the government.
On the other hand, Parbatya Gana Parisad (PGP), an organisation of Bangalee settlers in the hill districts, and Bangalee Oikya Parishad have announced their programmes to resist the road blockade.
The PGP, as part of its programme, will hold a peace rally in Rangamati district town on Monday, demanding their "equal rights" and "co-existence" in the CHT.
Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP) also dismissed the PCJSS demands and demanded abolition of the CHT Regional Council and District Councils.
In a memorandum submitted to the prime minister on January 15, it also demanded
the removal of PCJSS leader and CHT Regional Council Chairman Shantu Larma,
Rangamati District Council Chairman Manik Lal Dewan and Deputy Minister for
CHT Affairs Moni Swapan Dewan.
