The leader of the UN mission visiting the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) hopes to end the deadlock and resume development activities here soon.
"There still exist some problems and disagreement but I am sure that we could overcome it," Sarah L Timpson said talking to The Daily Star at Rangamati Hill District Council (RHDC) at 5:00pm yesterday.
The three-member high profile UNDP team led by Sarah arrived here at around 10:00 am and held three-hour talks with Jyotirindra Bodipriya Larma alias Santu Larma at the latter's office.
During the meeting, Larma did not blame any particular community, group, organisation or the authorities for the slide in law and order in the hills region.
Replying to a question, the mission leader said, "Larma did not point a finger at anyone."
Other two members of the delegation are Elsa Stama Topoulou of Greece and Victoria Lucia Taul Corpuz of the Philippines. The team later called on the RHDC Chairman Maniklal at his office and was apprised of its functions and responsibilities.
The team informed the chairman about the challenges involved in implementing development schemes and the importance of the RHDC in ensuring good governance, meeting sources said.
The team would leave Rangamati on January 11 for Mahalchhari, where an arson
attack took place on the indigenous people on August 26 last year.
