Govt denies arrest of Indian militants in Dhaka

STAFF REPORTER

The Ministry of Home yesterday strongly denied reports regarding recent arrest of some Indian militants in Dhaka, which were published by a section of local press and Indian news media.

"We would like to categorically state that the reports are false, baseless and concocted and have been fabricated to strain the friendly relations between Bangladesh and India," a Home Ministry press release said, adding that "no such incidents took place in the capital".

"Bangladesh has never allowed or assisted any insurgent group of any country for acts against that country and this policy is being pursued by the government consistently and rigorously," the release added.

The release also said that all past allegations of insurgency or intelligence activities allegedly carried out against India from the soil of Bangladesh had been thoroughly investigated but could not be substantiated.

The Bangladesh government remains committed to curbing and containing all forms of terrorism and terrorists outfits, whether of local or foreign origin, ruthlessly and decisively, the release added.

When contacted, the Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police told The Independent that the news is totally false and fabricated and motivated also.
