Rangamati representative: In the district of Rnagamati, there has been
incident of armed clash, kidnapping and arson between two tribal groups.
Such an incident of violence on the day of 20th death anniversary of M.
N. Larma has created tension and panic in the adjacent areas of the
district.
From the reliable source it has been known that, yesterday, about 20 to
25 tribal youths in bottle green fatigue have abducted three tribal
villagers in the remote area of Longgudu under Rnagamati district. The
attackers have also set to fire houses of some villagers to whom they
consider as political opponent. The house of one Mangol Kumar Chakma was
completely gutted in this fire. It has been also reported that armed
tribal youths had kidnapped Prem Lal Chakam (35), Bijoy Lal Chakma (60)
from Rangapanichara village. Another person named as Punnya Sen Chakma
(45) from adjacent Bhuyachar village was kidnapped by the same group on
the same day. Till last Monday, there was no information about the fate
of the kidnapped persons even after the search operation.
In another incident in the remote village of Kilchari under Naniachar
Upazaila of Rangamati district, an armed clash between the pro and anti
faction of the 'peace Accord' was reported. However, there was no
confirmation about the number of causalities or injured persons out of
this gun fight. Both the conflicting groups had left the place on
arrival of the armed forces in the area. Similar incident of gun-fights
between the conflicting groups are also reported from the remote areas
like Machalong, Bagaichari etc.
It is note worthy to mention in this connection that the JSS supreme Mr.
Santu Larma is expected to address a gathering of its party workers at
Bagaichari on 14th and 15th November, 2003.
