The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over a list of 78 militant camps operating from Bangladesh to Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), which has agreed to cooperate in 'liquidating' them.
The United Liberation Front of Assam (Ulfa) with 27 camps, followed by NSCN (I-M) with 14 camps top the list, which was handed over yesterday to BDR Deputy Director General Brig Gen Md Ibrahim Khalil during a coordination meeting between the two border forces in this Meghalayan capital.
"This list prepared by the Assam-Meghalaya-Manipur-Nagaland frontier headquartered
in Shillong is a part of the main list given by our Director General Ajai Raj
Sharma to his Bangladesh counterpart earlier," a senior official said here.
Besides Ulfa and NSCN (I-M), the list shows National Democratic Front of Bodoland
(NDFB) having 14 camps, Meghalaya's Achik National Volunteers' Council (ANVC)
nine, Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) five and three camps
each of the People's Liberation Organisation (PLA) and a little-known outfit
Islamic United Reformation Protest of India (IURPI).
The list also showed two camps of Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC)
and one of Manipur's Khanglei Yavol Khnna Lup (KYKL).
The official said other "frontiers may also have separate list of underground
camps like this frontier".
He said the list was handed over to BDR team to buttress India's position (of
militants camp in Bangla soil) since "Dhaka has all along been denying
this".
The Daily Star could not contact the BDR director general for his comments on
the issue despite repeated attempts.
