Bangladeshi artist Kanakchanpa Chakma has received a Special Award and Diploma
at the 2nd Tashkent International Biennial 2003, says a press release. This
took place at Tashkent, Uzbekistan from October 2 to 7.
Twenty-three countries including Bangladesh participated in the exhibition.
Kanakchanpa Chakma is the first female artist to present the Chittagong Hill Tracts to Bangladesh and the world outside since the last decade and before. She used to work with dark contrasting oils with subtle juxtapositions of forms of human beings , hills and rivers , taken from her childhood days. She ran "Gallery Tone" where several exhibitions have been held with success. Her paintings have been exhibited overseas in places such as USA, USSR, Bhutan etc.
