Tribal miscreants abducted four businessmen from Ghagra Bazar in Kaokhali upazia on Monday night.
As one of the businessmen, Tapan Chandra Dey,28, tried to flee from the captivity, the extortionists opened fire, injuring him. Hosne Ara Begum,40, a housewife in a nearby hut, was also shot. Both were admitted to Sadar Hospital.
According to a delayed report reaching here, a gang of 15 raided Ghagra Bazar
at about 9:pm and demanded Tk 10 lakh from the businessmen. On refusal, the
miscreants abducted Parimal Dey, Tapan Mitra, Tapan Chandra Dey and another
unidentified businessman.
All shops and business houses at the bazar remained closed yesterday protesting
extortion and abduction. The businessmen demanded security of life and property.
Officials said the law enforcers were trying to rescue the abducted businessmen.
