The office boycott and road blockade programme, enforced by UPDF, passed off today at Mahalchhari in Khagrachari district.
UPDF, in a press statement signed by Prattyan Chakma, yesterday thanked the people of the district for observing the blockade programme successfully. It caused the government of trying to shift the blame by refusing to form inquiry commission on Mahalchhari incident.
Meantime, about 350 people were killed, 735 abducted and 2,000 were injured since signing of the CHT peace accord in December 2, 1997. Five markets, five offices of political parties and 600 houses were damaged in arson attacks and 3,000 people were internally displaced owing to violent incidents.
Organisational Secretary of Khagrachhari JSS, Sudhakar Tripura told this correspondent that JSS supporters and activists are being harassed by UPDF hardliners. A number of JSS supporters from Luxmichhari, Manikchhari, Guimara, Matiranga and some other villages of Khagrachhari had arrived in the Khagrachhari town over the last few months for shelter.
He claimed that ‘UPDF terrorists’ have also killed around 100 JSS leaders and activists and abducted 300 JSS people.
