Road blockade at Khagrachhari

Second day of the 72-hour road blockade programme by Jumma Refugee Welfare Association (JRWA) was peacefully observed yesterday.

With the Awami League enforced the dawn-to-dusk hartal and the blockade programme got support form Jana Sanghati Samity (JSS) and United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) the Hill town came into a standstill.

Owing to two days of road blockade programme, passengers from Dhaka and the others parts of Bangladesh are now standed in Ramgarh. Pickets at the Chengey bridge area reportedly beat up a car driver of Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Faizullah and his associate when they were going to reconstruct the damaged Shilachari Bailey Bridge adjacent to Alutila on Chittagong-Khagrachhari highway.

The pickets also snatched away key of a bus of S. Alam Transport arriving at Khagrachhari from Dhaka. They obstructed the motor vehicle drivers at Mahajanpara.

Meantime, UPDF-supported Pahari Chattra Parisad (PCP) and its other allies held processions across the town and later held a rally at Swanirvar Bazar. The demonstration was addressed by Swapan Kumar Chakma, Mithun Chakma, Vice President of UPDF Jyotish Chakma, Anibikash Chakma and others.
