Sept 23: Armed terrorists set a number of houses on fire and abducted three tribals in a pre-dawn attack on a village on the outskirts of the town today.
The renewed trouble in the district was the result of a feud between Jana Sanghati Samity, the main tribal political party and hardline outfit UPDF, sources said.
According to villagers and sources in the security forces, an armed group of 10 to 15 persons came across Chengi River and swooped on the villagers. They attacked three people with bayonet. The terrorists torched a shop and three homesteads and abducted UP member Sanchita Tripura, Jomma Kanti Tripura and Tapan Chakma.
Shop owner Nihar Bindu Chakma said JSS cadres launched the attack as the villagers of Perachara are mostly supporters of UPDF.
UPDF has protested the incident.
While leaving the place the terrors fired gunshots in the air to scare away the villagers.
Army units patrolling the area and fire brigade reached the spot after the
terrorists fled
