Removal of Santu Larma from CHT council demanded

STAFF REPORTER

The Council of Hill People Central Committee has demanded immediate removal of Santu Larma from the post of the chairman of Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council for defaming the Constitution and challenging the authority of the Prime Minister violating the oath of office he took.

Chairman of the Council Central Committee Jalaluddin Ahmed Chowdhury Alamgir and Secretary General Moniruzzaman Monir, in a statement yesterday, said the tenure of Santu Larma expired on September 6 and "he was no more the chairman of the Regional Council enjoying status of a state minister". They said Santu Larma was inciting unrest among the hill people and tarnishing the image of the government by creating tension between hill people and Bangalees.

The Council leaders also expressed concern at the role of deputy minister Moni Swapan Dewan, a former leader of Shanti Bahini (major Rajesh), who surrendered and joined BNP expressing his belief in Bangladeshi nationalism. They alleged that the deputy minister was showing discriminatory attitude to the Bangalees in the hill tracts.

The Council leaders have urged the hill people to observe protest day against Santu Larma in the hill districts on September 21.
