Deputy Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Moni Swapan Dewan has said his ministry was not informed beforehand about the circular that has been issued by the army, restricting free movement of foreigners in the hills region.
Talking to the BBC last night, he said, "I was not informed about the circular beforehand and I came to know about the matter through newspapers."
"According to democratic norms, the home ministry should have informed us earlier," the deputy minister said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma, popularly known as Shantu Larma, also told the BBC last night, "A sense of insecurity is prevailing in the entire Chittagong Hills districts after the attack by the Bangalees on the indigenous people."
Larma also said withdrawal of the army from the CHT was needed in order to
implement the peace accord.
