Entry of foreigners into three districts of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT)
is soon going to be brought under army control.
Highly placed sources said traffic movement will also be controlled there.
The 24th Infantry Division stationed in Chittagong issued a circular in this
regard on August 10, to the deputy commissioners of Bandarban, Rangamati, and
Khagrachhari.
The decision has been taken in the wake of violence, kidnap and frequent arms
recoveries in the CHT over the past few months.
According to the cicular, high government officials and important personalities will also have to comply with the decision for their own safety.
Vehicular traffic on four routes in Bandarban have been put under military control
over the past few days, while foreigners have been made to take the DCs' permission
before entering the districts and have had their movement restricted.
In the circular, the authorities stated that although the 1989 Army Regulation
Section 15/A had been withdrawn in the light of CHT peace treaty, recent flare
ups have compelled the authorities to enforce it.
