Malaria kills 672 in 6 months in 3 hill districts

JULY 26: At least 672 people died of deadly disease malaria and 3.87 lakh others were affected during the last six months in the three hill districts.

This was revealed in a daylong workshop on Malaria here arranged by CARE and NGO Forum on Thursday, which was inaugurated by Chakma King Barrister Debasish Roy.

NGO Forum general secretary Adv Bhabatosh Dewan, Prosanta Tripura of CARE and dr Mannan Bangali of WHO revealed the death and affected figures citing government statistics.

According to the statistics, 238 people died and 1,38,700 others were affected in Rangamati while 221, died and 1,26,805 affected in Bandarban and 213died

and 1,21,501 affected in Khagrachhari districts during the period.

About 70 participants including government officials, physicians public representatives, BGO workers, journalists and UNDP officials attended the workshop.

The participants laid stress on raising awareness among the people about the seriousness of the disease and called for

proper utilisation of medical facilities given by government to combat the menace in the region.
