School teacher kidnapped in Khagrachhari

Staff Correspondent

Members of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) allegedly kidnapped one primary school teacher in Khagrachhari Sunday for ransom.

Sharadindu Chakma, senior teacher of Rangapanichhara Government Primary School, was sitting in the teachers' common room with a colleague at around 10:00am when three armed PCJSS activists called him out.

The three youths entered the school premises brandishing arms and took Sharadindu out, joining some 40 other PCJSS activists waiting outside, to an unknown place.

The youths told the colleague to inform Sharadindu's family of the ransom of Tk 1.5 lakh for his release. They asked the family to take the money to Dighinala by Tuesday.

Sharadindu's wife filed a general diary with Khagrachhari Police Station Sunday accusing the PCJSS for the kidnap.

Confirming the incident, Khagrachhari police said their attempt to rescue Sharadindu was on.

On January 8, this year, the victim's nephew Shambid Chakma was gunned down by an armed gang.
