June 8: The office of Panchhari Upazila unit of Parbatto Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) was gutted when some miscreants set it on fire Saturday night.

The PCJSS blamed their rival anti-peace treaty United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) for the arson.

Police quoted local people as saying that some unruly armed youths sprinkled kerosine on the PCJSS office located near Panchhari Degree College on Panchhari-Khagrachhari Road and torched it. They also ransacked a nearby shop and took away cash and merchandise.

Protesting the incident, the leaders and workers of PCJSS brought out a procession in the Upazila headquarters and held a public meeting.

Later, they marched to Panchhari Bus Terminal and put up barricades on the road, which stopped vehicular movement on road for several hours.

Tension gripped the Panchhari Upazila headquarters and additional police force was deployed to the sensitive areas. Assistant Superintendent of Police Circle Atiqur Rahman visited the place of occurrence.

Md Motiur Rahman, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Khagrachhari visited the spot.

A case was filed with Panchhari Thana accusing 13 persons in this connection but none was arrested so far
