An army officer was shot and seriously injured when tribal youths fired
on troops at Tripurachhori near Khalapahar in Naniarchor upazila
yesterday.
Major Anis received several bullets in his the left thigh and knee. He
has been flown to Chittagong Combined Military Hospital (CCMH) by a
helicopter.
The miscreants sprayed bullets from Kalapahar hilltop when Maj. Anis and
his troops were patrolling the remote mountain area at around 10.30 am,
sources said. The army also replied with shots.
The army cordoned off the whole area immediately and launched a combing
operation to nab the miscreants.
Additional troops have been deployed in Tripurachhori and Kalapahar
areas, the sources said.
Three foreign engineers were kidnapped from Kalapahar area by tribesmen
on February 16, 2001.
