Khagrachhari Government College faces manifold problems

A Correspondent, Khagrachhari

Nov 7 : Education at Khagrachhari Government College is being hampered due to manifold problems facing the college. The problems being faced by the college include shortage of teachers, general employees and education appliances.

It is gathered that the concerned authorities have been duly informed of the problems, but no step has been taken up so far to solve those. As a result the students of the college have become utterly frustrated. It is gathered that only 23 teachers have been discharging their responsibilities against the posts of 44 teachers.

As a result the education of the college is suffering a serious setback and the students are bearing the brunt of it. Besides, the posts of head assistant, accountant, cashier, cataloguer and librarian have been lying vacant. As a result, the teachers have been doing their duties.

Due to absence of a librarian, the students of the college cannot use the books kept in the college library.

Some conscious guardians told that though the college is the only higher seat of learning in the district headquarters, the authorities concerned are turning a blind eye to it. Though the college had been nationalised two decades ago, B.Sc. (pass course) has not been introduced in the college.

On the other hand, another government college of the district has managed to introduce the same.

As a result, a large number of students of the district are facing problems. The students of poor families are the worst sufferers. Some educationists of the district said that non-introduction of B.Sc. (pass course) at Khagrachhari Government College has left an adverse impact on the science education in the district. Poor students at secondary and higher secondary levels do not feel encouraged to study science.

When contacted, principal of the college Prof Al Mamun Jahangiri told this correspondent that the teachers of the college have been in extreme pressures due to shortage of teachers.

Many teachers cannot enjoy holidays, he added.
