NEW DELHI, Nov 3 - Notwithstanding repeated denials by Bangladesh, India has
identified "99 training camps" of North-east insurgents in that country
and a list pinpointing the locations has been handed over to Dhaka for action,
official sources here said, reports PTI. The training camps, whose list has
been prepared by the Indian security agencies, includes 25 run by the National
Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), 20 run by All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF),
18 by National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM), the sources
told PTI.
The list also includes 10 training camps run by People's Liberation Army (PLA), 17 by United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), two by National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), two by Muslim United Liberation Tiger of Asam (MULTA), three by Achik National Volunteer Council, one by Chakma Nation al Liberation Front (CNLF), and one by Dima Halong Daogah, they said. The areas pinpointed to show existence of these camps are Naikhongchari, Alikadam and Ruma in Bandarban district, Kaukhali, Nanirchar, Baghaichari and Dighinala in Rangamati district, Kamalganj and Srimangal in Moulvibazar district and Chunarughat in Hobiganj, they said. The camps also exist in Dighinala, Panchari, Matiranga and Khagrachari in Khagrachari district, Chunarunhat and Madhabpur in Hobiganj district, the sources said.
According to the sources, NSCN-IM is running its camps in Sajek in Khagrachari
district, Thanchi in Bandarban district, Langdu and Bagaicheri in Rangmati,
Kulaura in Moulvibazar, Zakiganj in Sylhet, Ruma, Alikadam and Thanchi in Bandarban,
Dighinala in Khagrachari and Baghaichari in Rangamati. The PLA is training its
insurgents at Dighinala in Khagrachari, Kamalganj and Kulaura in Moulvibazar,
Chanarughat in Hobiganj, Sylhet district and Sherpur district, they said.
The ULFA insurgents are being trained in its camps at Baghaichari in Rangamati
district, Sylhet district, Teharpur in Sonamganj, Srimangal in Moulvibazar,
Myamensingh district, Chittagong in Sherpur district, Chilchari in Bandarban
district, Mymensingh district, Companyganj in Sylhet district and Rauhmari in
Kurigram district, they said. The NDFB is running its camps in Khagrachari and
Tangail districts, while the Chakma National Liberation Front has its one camp
in Baghaichari in Rangmati district. The camp of MULTA exists in Chittagong
and Cox Bazar districts, they said, adding Dima Halong Daoga's camp is situated
in Kulaura in Sylhet district.
Achik National Volunteer Council runs its camps in Tangail, Mymensingh and Sherpur districts, they said. The existence of the camps comes to light even as Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Director General Maj Gen Rezaqul Haider assured Home Secretary N Gopalaswami last week that his country would not allow its territ ory to be used by anti-India forces.
"The Bangladesh Government and BDR has carried out intensive search and combing operations. I can reaffirm that the soil of Bangladesh will not be allowed to be used for any kind of insurgency operation against any country," Haider told reporters after a meeting with Gopalaswami.
