The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide 61 million dollars to carry out
development activities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT).
Addressing a seminar marking the completion of one year of the government, Deputy
Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Moni Swapon Dewan said here on Wednesday
that the government had signed an agreement with the ADB for this purpose.
He said the fund would be spent in seven years.
Terming peace as pre-condition to development, Dewan urged the people to help
maintain peace and harmony in the region on the basis of mutual trust and respect.
Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Syed Mushtaque
chaired the seminar titled 'Peace and possibility in CHT.'
He said the donor agencies resumed their activities in the CHT as the present government is sincere to continue development works in the region.
Chairmen of Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban Hill District Councils, Dr
Manik Lal Dewan, Nakhhatra Lal Dev Barman and Mayma Ching respectively spoke
on the occasion as special guests.
