US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Christina Rocca will
arrive tomorrow on a two-day official visit to Bangladesh.
She will meet Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and also hold talks with
Foreign Minister Morshed Khan and senior officials of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs. She is also expected to hold meetings with a broad
spectrum of political leaders including some belonging to the
Opposition.
Sources said Rocca's visit is considered significant because a number of
issues including political, economic and bilateral ones will come up for
discussion at the highest level.
This is the first high-level visit by a US official to Bangladesh since
the BNP-led coalition government took office in October last year.
