A tribal youth was killed and three others suffered bullet wounds when unknown assailants opened fire on the supporters of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) candidate Prosit Bikash Khisa at Latiban Baroitali on Sunday.

The dead was identified as Bisuk Chakma, 23.

Witnesses said the miscreants ambushed in a nearby jungle and sprayed bullets on the UPDF workers while they were returning from a rally at Zero Point in four jeeps.

The attackers whisked away as police and armymen appeared on the scene hearing the rattle of gunshots.

The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital by the police and the armymen.

Earlier, a clash between Parbattya Chattagram Jano Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) and UPDF workers took place at noon when the PCJSS activists prevented the UPDF workers from arranging a rally at Zero Point in Panchhari upazila, leaving Tarun Kanti Chakma injured.

Three other people Asish Chakma, Subinoy Chakma and Shahidmoy Chakma were missing after the clash.

In another incident, three tribesmen Kalamani Chakma, Triptimoy Chakma and Tongkra Marma were kidnapped from Uttar Chongrachhari in Mahalchhari upazila on Sunday afternoon. PCJSS was blamed for the abduction.
