UPDF wants CHT peace accord scrapped

Feb 10: The leaders of the UPDF (United Peoples Democratic Front), a
tribal organisation yesterday demanded cancellation of the Peace Accord
1998 signed by the Janasanghati Samiti, and the then Awami League
government.
They raised the demand at a function organised by the UPDF at
Khagrachhari on the occasion of the anniversary of surrendering arms to
the government by tribal insurgents at Khagrachhari Stadium on February
10, 1998.
UPDF leader, Anil Chakma presided over the meeting. They urged the
government to discuss with them different issues including land
management in the Chittagong Hill Tracts areas and women repression.
The UPDF leaders who took part in the discussion were Animesh Chakma,
Dhrubajyoti Chakma, Somari Chakma, Zelam Chakma, Ilir Dewan, Mithun
Chakma, Ujjal Smriti Chakma, Rahul Moni Chakma and Debadutta Tripura.
Before the meeting, a procession led by UPDF paraded roads of
Khagrachhari district town.
